Episode 5 :  Three days before D-Day

The boat sails back to Port Owen

After four days of intensive work on the hull, the boat is finally ready to return to its home port, Port Owen! After a few final adjustments and filling up with diesel to tackle the long crossing, Jean-Baptiste settles in and begins writing the first entries in the logbook he plans to fill all the way to Brazil.

The last operation: putting the boat back in the water! Despite the boat's 17 tons, the imposing machine lifts it effortlessly and returns it to the sea. Anouchka, Lorenzo, and Jean-Baptiste must sail around a cape that is often rough and full of dangerous rocks to get from Saldanha to Port Owen. They take the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the boat one last time before the big departure in four days. They spend the night at anchor along the way, so as to arrive at high tide at 8:30 a.m. and calmly enter the river that leads to the marina. They even have the privilege of spotting an ostrich as soon as they enter the river.

After a day at sea, the engine needs servicing, the sails need furling, and the boat needs a good hosing down to clean off the sea salt. Port Owen marina is so calm and peaceful, it's perfect for relaxing and lazing around. Our Egyptian goose, Clio, is the first to fall asleep, just before sunset. Soon the whole crew follows!

Episode 5 :  Trois jours avant le départ

Le bateau retourne à Port Owen

Après 4 jours de travaux intensifs sur la coque, le bateau est enfin prêt à retourner à son port d’attache, Port Owen! Après quelques derniers réglages et le plein de diesel pour affronter la grande traversée, Jean-Baptiste prend ses quartiers et commence à rédiger les premières lignes du journal de bord qu’il compte remplir jusqu’au Brésil.

Dernière opération : remettre le bateau à l’eau! Malgré les 17 tonnes du bateau, l’imposante machine le soulève sans peine et le rend à la mer. Anouchka, Lorenzo et Jean-Baptiste doivent passer un cap souvent agité et plein de rochers dangereux pour aller de Saldanha à Port Owen. Ils en profitent pour prendre leurs marques sur le bateau une dernière fois avant le grand départ fixé dans 4 jours. Ils passent la nuit à l’ancre, sur le trajet, de façon à arriver à la marée haute de 8h30 du matin pour entrer calmement dans la rivière qui mène à la marina. Ils ont même le privilège d’apercevoir une autruche dès leur entrée dans la rivière.

Après une sortie en mer, il faut réviser le moteur, replier les voiles et asperger le bateau pour le nettoyer du sel de la mer. La marina de Port Owen est tellement calme et apaisante, elle invite au repos et à la paresse. Notre oie d’Egypte, Clio, s’endort la première, juste avant le coucher du soleil. Bientôt suivie par toute l’équipe!
