Everything smooth so far, Oxley is happily flying downwind and the wind is quite light but we are doing a steady 5,5 knots. Lorenzo decided to bake a vanilla pound cake and to glaze it with the black Côte d’Or chocolate we brought from Belgium. We are quite happy to have a dessert!

After the baking we decided to take the drone out for the first time since we left because the wind was light and the Oxley looked nice in the evening sun. JB was ready to catch it with a big fishing net, so there it went, but it wasn’t responding correctly. Lorenzo was desperately trying to get it to fly towards us (remember we were under sail going about 4 knots), we could see it staying stationary and the distance was getting bigger… we were losing hope about getting it back onboard because it wasn’t moving at all and it seemed it had gone into « safety » mode, minimising the commands. Our poor drone was getting smaller and smaller the further we were sailing away and after a very long 10’ and numerous alerts about it reaching its maximum altitude, we finally lost signal - it had disappeared and would soon perish at sea. This was definitly the most depressing moment we’ve had so far…but at least we have some footage of the boat before the drone disappeared.

Luckily we had roast chicken and a cake to cheer us up ;)
