« Back on track »
This morning as early as possible Lorenzo and I removed our vintage asymmetrical spinnaker for light winds and switched back to our Oxley. What a relief to be heading back in the right direction: 288°T, directly to our final destination, Jacarre marina. The wind was back, blowing a steady 10-13 knots. In the end we were only about 23 Nm off track overnight - which we will easily catch up.
Technically tomorrow afternoon we will be exactly halfway between Saint Helena and Brazil! From today, we are actually closer to the Brazilian coast than to Africa. Our estimated date of arrival, if the wind stays like this, will be on the 25th February! So exactly one month since we left Port Owen on the 25th January. We must admit that our sailing conditions have been more than perfect so far, so we hope this continues for the last week!
The weather has been very warm, during the day we try to refresh ourselves with our fans and short showers: the moment you start cooking or using the oven it gets rally warm inside. Luckily we have a very good fridge and freezer, so cool drinks and ice blocks are easily available. We ate raw tuna ceviche again today ahah the rest is now frozen. I don’t know why, but I have a feeling we will have a lot of left over meat and fish in the freezer by the time we reach Brazil! We still have a lot of fresh produce from SA and St H.: tomatoes, squash, butternuts, onions, potatoes, mangoes, grenadillas, bananas, pawpaws,… The guys have found a new favourite night watch snack: rusks. So thanks again to those who gave us extra rusks and biltong before we left ;)
We often tell ourselves that we have been eating healthier/better food so far onboard than we sometimes do on land. Probably because we have so much time on our hands, we can think about what to prepare, eat enough fruit and veg and take the time to bake bread (we take turns).
Tonight is going to be an easy watch, no planned shift in wind strength nor direction.

Its amazing how much you think about food when you are sailing . We didnt have refrigiration on board and pickled and curried out Tuna which went 'high " anyway ...to be told we should have hung it in the rigging and should have made biltong out of it ...
My friend, have you made my bread recipes?
