« Oxley’s time to shine »
Started calmly with very light winds around 8:00 so we decided to get the Oxley out again but this time poled out (with the whiskerpole we normally use for the genoa). In order to get all the lines ready for this setup Lorenzo went up the mast to place a new shakle and line, it gets very rocky up there when you are underway. We spent most of the day slower than the previous days as the wind was as low as 6-8 kts, so today we probably didn’t get our average of 120-140Nm/day. We will leave the Oxley flying during the night, the wind is not increasing too much and it’s a full moon so good visibility if something does happen.
Fun fact out here, I realized a few days ago that the ocean doesn’t have a scent compared to the sea near the coast. Apparently this is a known fact that out here we are in an olfactory desert. When I noticed this the first days I was a bit worried that I had lost my sense of smell but JB told me this is normal.
Later this afternoon we caught another Mahi Mahi (dorado) that we ate tonight, we will wait a few days before casting again otherwise we might get fed up with fish. Apparently dorados mate for life…so hopefully we caught the partner from the other day.
Our fruit are getting very ripe so tried out a new frozen banana recipe, I’ll see if I can transform it into ice cream tomorrow, will let you know how that turns out ! We will also bake another banana bread, it definitely is a must recipe on a boat.
Can someone who has been to Saint Helena tell us what day the main shop gets new stock ?(Tracy, I’m thinking of you ;-)
Can you spot Orions belt?

Message from my friend James is that they are expecting the ship to arrive Sunday, so fresh produce should hit the shelves by Monday or Tuesday! Get there as early as possible if your on land as it goes very fast
Safe sailing
